In these series of workshops I will provide information regarding the characteristics, assessment, and treatment of selective mutism and school refusal behavior in children and adolescents.
The selective mutism workshop will illuminate basic diagnostic and assessment strategies to identify youths with the disorder as well as recommendations for increasing speech frequency and audibility via behavioral techniques.
The school refusal behavior workshops will illustrate historical terminology and characteristics of contemporary youths with problematic absenteeism as well as state-of-the-art assessment techniques to evaluate this population. In particular, an extended school refusal behavior workshop will emphasize intervention and prevention at various levels, including children, family, and systemic strategies to help youths reintegrate into school with less distress.
